Granny T's Pickles

Grandma Tallman's pickle recipe-served daily on our salad bar!

To make one gallon of brine:

4 c sugar
4 c vinegar
1/2 c coarse or canning salt
1/3 tsp each of turmeric, celery seed and mustard seed

Mix brine in large container, stir and let set. Wash and slice unpeeled cucumbers. For every 8 cucumbers, slice two large, peeled onions. Layer cucumbers and onions in jar until full, then pour brine until covered. Cover; do not seal tightly. Let sit for seven days.
